" If the SDG's are to be actualized, our immediate environment is a good starting point.
Being part of Millennium Fellowship will give me the opportunity to join the army of change makers towards a healthy and better living by sustaining the health of people and advancing SDG 3 in my immediate environment.
Having seen the massive social impacts made by the past Millennium Fellows: Mr Omeje Henry and his team, I strongly believe that Millennium Campus Fellowship is the best place to hone my social impact skills for the betterment of humanity. Joining MCF offers me the opportunity to lend a voice and spread the news on healthy lifestyle and management of asthma.
Through Millennium Fellowship, I hope to establish effective collaborations in achieving a sustainable asthma awareness and management scheme that is not just limited to my environment but can be reproduced by others in their immediate environment.
Learning is an integral process which is more productive if a mentor-based approach is followed, The Millennium Fellowship will give me an opportunity to acquire leadership skills and mentorship guidance needed to explore new ways of learning to curb global health problems; this will help me to hone my professional and organizational skills as a future pharmacist who is interested in public health.
Millennium Fellowship will also help me to network with global change-makers who are committed to working effortlessly in achieving the sustainable development goals to learn, this will form a stepping stone to my professional growth as a future pharmacist and a successful social entrepreneur.
These benefits are particular and personal to me because they will help me achieve my career goals. They will also broaden my horizon and views to help me achieve a better and healthier environment. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Asthma Awareness and Management Initiative (AAMI)

Asthma Awareness and Management initiative (AAMi) is a project targeted at gradually reaching a good percentage of the entire populace consisting of asthmatics and nonasthmatics. It aims at educating the public on the causes, prevention of asthma triggers, and proper management involved in asthma care thus enhancing and improving the quality of life of asthma patients.
Asthma is a major Non-communicable disease(NCD) that has been identified also as a global burden being the most common chronic disease among children. According to the World Health Organization(WHO), asthma affected an estimated 262 000 000 people in 2019 and caused 461 000 deaths. AAMi would help to reduce the global burden arising from the impact of Non-communicable diseases. This would be achieved through sustainable education on the proper way to curtail and erase asthma triggers, attacks, and deaths.
The project would prioritize hosting awareness programs within the University of Nigeria which would educate about 1000 students of faculty of pharmaceutical sciences and faculty of social science on the importance of early asthma diagnosis and adequate management of the condition. It would buttress the importance of a healthy lifestyle as a key asthma management technique and also correct the various misconceptions that the students have about asthma.
There would be a training session where participants would be trained on how to manage an asthmatic patient in the case of an asthmatic attack.
The AAMi project members would collaborate with a specialist in asthma care and pioneer of the Asthma Awareness and Care Group(AACG), and other social health and public health groups on campus to achieve the aim of the project.
