Millennium Fellowship Project: A Stain-free Society Initiative

A Stain-Free Society Initiative is a program that seeks to shed more light and demystify Menstruation for budding junior(secondary) school students in Nsukka, Nigeria. Menstruation which is an inevitable event in life for every girl and woman is often met with speculations and hearsays and this makes it difficult for young ladies who are experiencing their menarche to navigate. This leads to the prevalence of avoidable infections thereby causing the girls to live in fear of their next menstrual period. This project seeks to make menstrual periods less dreadful and more hygienic for the girl who just started seeing her period.
This initiative will promote menstrual health for all girls via the following means:
1) creation of awareness to educate junior school students on the importance of good hygiene practices during menstrual cycle.
2) carrying out discussions in focus groups before and after the program inorder to find out how much knowledge they have about the topic and to identify harmful myths that need to be debunked.
3) The end result of this initiative would be to make the participants conversant with good hygiene practices as regards menstrual health and also to create a ripple effect whereby the paricipants will be able to teach other girls how to handle their periods when the time comes.
