Millennium Fellowship Project: EVERGREEN MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

Evergreen Mental Health Initiative is an initiative geared towards achieving a sustainable mental health in Africa and around the world through advocacy, policy innovation and technology driven solutions.
Mental health is such a scarce topic in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. There are a lot of speculations and indifference as to the mental conditions a wide range of people are faced with, and the challenge is that these indifferences must be changed to bring about what we call "community care" or "grassroot changes". It is no news that the average Nigerian goes through a lot of stressors daily and the average Nigerian student has more to go through in terms of assignment deadlines, peer issues, grades, personal life, personal goals, personal values and orientation. A lot of Nigerian students are oblivious to the fact that there are things called stressors and they can be coped with or not, some institutions lack a functional mental health care centre, and basically ignorance keeps us in the dark and keeps us from getting the help we need.
We see depression on a rise, suicide rates amongst students increasing, and most of it is because mental health is not viewed as a "thing". These and more are what Evergreen Mental Health Initiative aims to tackle.
We aim to curb the stigmatization, sensitize the youths, collect reasonable data, groom actionable leaders for mental health and provide mental health education in a fun and good way.

About the Millennium Fellow

I am a mental health advocate, and the founder of an African based mental health network, Evergreen Mental Health Initiative (EMHI, evergreen_mhi) which aims to provide sustainable mental health development in Africa through advocacy, community building, policy innovations and technology driven solutions. I'm a 2022 mental health Fellow, and 2022 cybergirls Fellow of the Cybersafe Foundation. I am a creative writer with over 2 years of professional experience and over 10 years of childhood experience (if that counts), and a storyteller too. Compelling African stories told the right way interest me.

As an Afrocentric person I have the idea of infusing creative writing with brand storytelling for the promotion of indigenous businesses.

I am a budding digital marketer, cybersecurity learner, and law student who aims to use the mix of digital marketing, cybersecurity and international economic law to further the growth of the African economy.

I have my areas of interest spread across mental health development, SDG's, policymaking, nation building, African economic development, technology development, storytelling, creative writing... While I'm not working on the next changemaking idea, I'm either listening to my favourite Christian podcasts, reading books, writing a blog, dressing up, volunteering (@ ecochampions, unveil mental health initiative, sisterlyhq) or hanging out with friends and family.
