Millennium Fellowship Project: Becoming a Teen Girl Initiative

The Becoming a Teen Girl Initiative physically educated secondary school girls on menstruation and menstrual hygiene management, discussing the importance of good practices on their health and well-being. Therefore addressing the knowledge gaps on menstrual hygiene practices that exist among this age group. It educated girls on managing their menstruation hygienically, safely, in privacy, and with dignity. It also addressed how to deal with the physical challenges such as inadequate materials, stains, leaks, odor, and psychological challenges such as unpreparedness for menarche, teasing and social isolation, fear, shame, and embarrassment that often leads to poor concentration or distraction, and school absenteeism. In addition, through the project disposable sanitary pads were donated.

About the Millennium Fellow

Adegbite Moriam Adesola is a pharmacy student at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. She is a writer and researcher with an avid interest in global health. She is passionate about promoting healthy lives and good well-being for all ages, which is the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3. This has driven her to organize and participate in health outreaches for her immediate community.
