Millennium Fellowship Project: Team Mental Milestone

Several months ago, there was an inter-communal conflict between two communities, Okopedi and Amamong, at Okobo local government area in Akwa Ibom State. These communities have no clear boundaries,it being an issue of contempt for several decades. This clash occured on the 28th of December, 2020 and again on January 15, 2021. Armed individuals from both clans fought seriously, set houses ablaze thereby destroying life, crop and property. During the melee, the government owned comprehensive secondary school, the only secondary school present for miles around was utterly demolished. This event was witnessed by me, who at that time had been visiting a relative over the holidays.
Up until now, the students of the school have been unable to attend classes due to the lackadaisical attitude of the government in rehabilitating the school quickly. Quite a large percentage of the rural community are not financially buoyant to send their wards to the newly constructed private secondary school in the area. Other government secondary schools exist at other local government areas like Ibawa, Ekeja etc. but are miles away from the village. These students are unable to trek the great distance everyday, and they sought to engage in menial jobs or return to their farms. These students are bereft of any form of formal education whatsoever, and in the near future, would be behind their contemporaries in literacy.
This great quest to be of help in this situation by enabling a good bit if the students receive some education pending when the government finishes the demolished school has been considered by I and my team members. We aim to assist some parents with the tution fees of the new school. As a team we would raise money to support our project through friends, family and certain NGOs, all about $1500. The tution fee cost for each student is about $ 25.77 and the cost of uniforms, stationery at about $43.31 for each student. The cost would be slightly lower for students in the lower classes. We hope to send at least 41 students back to school
