Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Deep Clean

*Project Description:*

Millions of people die every year from diseases associated with unsafe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. Young children are particularly vulnerable, as WASH(water, sanitation and hygiene) related diseases remain among the leading causes of death in children under 5 years with over 26.5 million children in Nigeria extremely vulnerable to water-related diseases.

Therefore my project seeks to advance SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation in my local community. Our project will provide a sustainable water quality intervention program using chlorine-based water treatment system to purify the bolehole water in Legend Nursery/Primary school in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria in order to eliminate water-borne diseases.

This project will also support hygiene in the school environment through the provision of soap and tissue papers to equip their toilet facilities.

The pupils and teachers will further be equipped with knowledge on proper disposal of faeces, importance of practicing hygiene and the basic techniques in Hand Washing will be demonstrated.

Hence, our project will play a vital role in improving water quality, reducing pollution and eliminating dumping.
Our aim is to reach over 200 pupils in Legend Nursery/Primary school. A pre-assessment survey will be taken before the training starts and the end of the project, a post -assessment survey to measure the impact of the project.
