" The thought that I can help advance the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and leave the world a little better than I found it, is most thrilling. And becoming a 2022 Millennium Fellow is one big step towards achieving that. I'm excited to be here, and I hope to learn more, connect with others, and make the most out of this unique opportunity. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Childhood Diseases Sensitization Program

Childhood Diseases Sensitization Program (CDPS) is a project aimed at spreading information especially to uneducated mothers about childhood diseases such as vaccine-preventable diseases, pneumonia, tuberculosis, respiratory syncytial virus, malaria, and the rest.

This is important because, according to a research by UNICEF, one in seven Nigerian children die before their fifth birthday. My project would therefore be aimed at educating these mothers about the dangers posed by childhood diseases, how to prevent some of them like malaria, and what to do when their children contract any of the diseases.

About the Millennium Fellow

Chiwenite Kingsley Onyekwelu is a young literacy advocate, climate change and public health enthusiast, studying pharmacy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria. In the past years, he has grown to understand the need for young people to step out and assist in the provision of solutions for some of the world's most urgent problems. His passion for creating social change has been one of his main driving forces, pushing him to volunteer for organizations including the World Literacy Foundation, the Hult Prize, LEAP AFRICA, Theirworld, Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), and others. He believes that a more sustainable world is possible, and is hoping to learn more and connect with other people around the world who share in this dream.
