" Mental Health is in dire need of attention, but it is less regarded. I intend to provoke a rethinking and beyond that, create a sustainable effect on young people because THE HEALTH OF THE MIND COMES FIRST.
It is an incredible opportunity to be selected as a Millennium Fellow. I am exceptionally thrilled because of the mentorship and direction I’ll receive to promote my impact on my campus and in my community and society at large. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: ElevateYou
This project is a mental health initiative. It is a part of my goals this year to startup a healthy and sustainable mental health program which will run on campuses in my country, but will take off first from my university.
The idea is that I, and the team I'll form, will spread the news on the campus through school groups and posters. Then, there'll be live sessions on the campus in a chosen venue on campus where students who are having one or two challenges regarding their mental health will come and share their stories with each other and learn progressively from each other. It'll be a safe space .
On each gatherings, there'll be a resource person from the community (to save cost) that'll come and give professional advice to students on how to manage their stress. As the movement progresses, students will be given topics relating to mental health, in turns, to share to the group so everyone grows together.
The goal of the group would be for everyone to network and know eachother, grow progressively, become more stable mentally and learn how to support eachother. The program will also be integrated in other parts of students lives, like the entrepreneur and managing business stress, and otherwise.
We may not reach everyone on the campus directly (that doesn't mean we won't try to) but we'll change the minds of the people we're in contact with which will in turn be disciples of mental health advocacy as a way to achieve sustainability.
We'll also run mental health campaigns online and build followership and membership online as well.
The reason behind my choosing this project is because the campus lost several students to suicide last year, and these when studied were mental health cases.
