Millennium Fellowship Project: Control and Eradication of Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis Among School Children

This project is focused on SDGs goal number 3. It is aimed at controlling and eradicating soil transmitted helminth infections among school children. These infections are prevalent among school children especially during the rainy season. It is transmitted through contact with infected soil. These children play with the soil on bare foot and hand without proper washing of hands after playing, thereby making them susceptible to Soil transmitted infections.
These infections cause mental retardation, failure to thrive, low self esteem, malnutrition etc. These contribute to the poor academic performance of the affectef children.
These children are ignorant of these infection and love to play on the soil especially during school hours.
The project targeted the sensitization of these children, and provision of sanitary installation to ensure proper hand washing practice after playing on the soil, as a feasible measure to controlling these infections among these children.
