ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2022

United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. Over 31,000 young leaders on 2,400+ campuses across 140+ nations applied to join the Class of 2022.  200+ campuses worldwide (just 8%) were selected to host the 3,000+ Millennium Fellows.

" Though endowed with abundant natural resources,my country is still grappling with scourges such as poverty and malnutrition.My aim is to address these problems through empowerment projects,promoting transformative thinking and improving access to basic necessities.I believe that the Millennium Fellowship Program will enable me to work with and learn from a network of individuals that will help translate these goals to reality . "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering Children With Disabilities

Summary:
Providing support to a team of physically challenged people that work to create mobility aids from recycled paper and cardboard for children with disabilities.

Objectives :
1.To source for materials,e.g paper,cardboard,paint etc., which are used to make mobility aids such as special chairs through:
-engaging companies which manufacture these materials and other possible sponsors
-Creating awareness campaigns on campus with the aim of collecting paper,clothes and other materials from students
-Creating posters which will be circulated around campus and on social media

2.To provide other basic necessities ,e.g diapers,to support the families of low socio-economic status through fundraising ventures and engaging sponsors/companies.

3.To work as volunteers and assist in the production of the mobility aids.

4.To organize a small celebration at APTERS Zambia with the children and parents at the end of the project as supplies are donated.

About the Millennium Fellow

Thelma Kuwabo Mwala is a 6th year medical student at the University of Zambia with a passion for improving the standard of living in her community,especially that of children,through a holistic approach that touches on health-related,social and economic aspects.In pursuing this goal,she is an active member of youth-run organizations aimed at making a positive impact in the aforementioned areas.Her volunteering experience dates back to high school.Being an avid reader,Thelma wishes to promote a reading culture in her community,thereby inspiring and equipping individuals with knowledge,the key to success.
