Millennium Fellowship Project: Equity Leaders Program, University Of Nairobi

We have trained and equipped several hundred university students with soft skills, in professional and personal development programs. We have achieved this through planning and organizing career coaching with industry leaders. This has seen almost 90% of the students we engage with qualify for internships and full-time jobs year after year thus addressing the unemployment problem in Kenya. Financial constraints have been a great challenge, as we depend on partners to raise funds for feeding programs and incurring operational costs. Nonetheless, sometimes we have had to shift our focus programs with less financial requirements. Additionally, the mobilization of volunteers for community engagements has always posed a great obstacle. However, constantly creating awareness of the importance of the programs to our volunteers and their impacts being seen, has been a great force for recruitment. Our focus on student mentorship by linking up students to alumni has been very fruitful, as students are prepared early enough for the realities of life regarding careers, managing relationships, and investments. Most of our programs have been appreciated and commended by the local community within Nairobi and its environs. We work with impact-driven organizations including Equity Group Foundation and Kenya Red Cross.
