Millennium Fellowship Project: Youth4Health

Youth 4 Health aims at addressing challenges faced by Kenyan adolescents and youth, in regard to sexual reproductive health. A recent health survey by the ministry of health in Kenya showed that HIV/AIDs has been on the rise in the past two years. 14 to 28 years being the most prevalent age group and more in females. Additionally, it was established to be prevalent in the poor population groups in Nairobi and its outskirts. The aim of the project is to promote health education and promotion of HIV/AIDs spread and prevention, contraception, menstrual health, and stigma on unintended pregnancy outside the school curriculum. HIV/AIDs was inculcated into Kenya's health system more than 15 years ago. Initially, the impact was significant. However, we have realized most Kenyan students view HIV/AIDs theoretically and study to pass exams. Therefore, we found it important to spread awareness about the disease in a setting different from the academic one by using social media brand influencers on tik-tok, Instagram, Twitter and designing cartoons and skits to create awareness. The project also aims to recruit at least 200 students at the University of Nairobi to carry out outreach programs in home residences.
