" Environmental pollution is likely to cause a mass extinction event if nothing is done to curb it and the climate change that is a result of it. Due to lack of exposure and proper education particularly in 3rd world countries such as my own,most people are misinformed or lack the knowledge entirely. The skills I hope to pick up in the Millennium Fellowship will not only enable me to reach a higher audience with my environmental advocacy but also think of new creative ways to involve my community. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Stawi environmental activists
Stawi environmental activists is a project led by Millennium Fellow Kelvin Mwangi aimed at reducing the amount of glass waste in the environment. The project aims to engage with members of the community to effectively neutralize glass waste by using our state of the art glass crusher to crush it and make new products. We will host community clean up events as well as co-host a number of environmental day activities to bring awareness on climate change.
About the Millennium Fellow
Kelvin Mwangi Nyoike is a highly motivated and competitive law student in the university of Nairobi. Having been born and raised in low income neighborhood in Nairobi,he was able to witness first hand the negative effects of pollution and this is what undoubtedly led his passion for environmental conservation. He has this taken it in his stride to organize garbage collection campaigns as well as community clean ups in a bid to champion his goals of environmental conservation. He aims to continue his environmental advocacy upon completion of his studies and upon joining the professional legal arena as he will have a big enough platform to champion his ideals.
