Millennium Fellowship Project: Social Impact at the University of Nairobi

The University of Nairobi's Millennium Fellowship cohort joined various SACCOs and Micro-Finance Institutions during this year's Savings week. As part of our Social Impact tour, we explored ways for these institutions partnering with us in advancing the SDGs. The event that took place at the Wakulima Market attracted many small-scale traders. We talked about how how the SACCO movement can support Young people by creating internships and offering decent work and economic growth for the entire society. On their part, the SACCOs shared the strategies they are using to end Poverty, alleviate hunger, and build sustainable cities and communities through their products.

About the Millennium Fellow

Khamis said khamis an ambitious and passionate student of The University of Nairobi pursuing an undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Arts (with a major in economics and a minor in Sociology). Born in kisauni,Mombasa and residing in Nairobi Kenya, Khamis, has always had a concern on the lives and welfare of the street youths who are forced to commit to crime due to lack of access to the basic needs by trying to spread the SDG goal of poverty allevation through youth mobilisation. Involved in most of the social work activities in his community, he is aspiring to be part of the necessary idea of ensuring youths have an access to the diversified resource world to the benefit of the youth and community. Being a child raised in an environment full of youth violence caused by drug usage due to unemployment, he considers awareness against drug abuse through diversifying the resource world is the house of hope for UN's SDG of poverty allevation.
