Millennium Fellowship Project: Smiling through acceptance
Autism spectrum disorder is a common developmental disease in children. If detected early,it enables better accomodation of the child by the society and those around the child.Sadly,In rural areas,ASD has little awareness within the society and therefore, there is little or no effort in regards to the children. Most times, these children are regarded as a product of a curse and end up being locked up in their parents houses or one of their parents ends up abandoning them because they do not want to be associated.Autistic kids possess a different kind of thinking and a way of doing things and giving them a chance to exploit their full potential and feel wanted is not only humane but also progressive for a society. It is by this reason, that this project is geared up towards spreading awareness and promoting acceptability of these kids .Hence the name,"smiling through acceptance". Moreover,it seeks to push for having a centre for these special kids within the communities or have public schools that have special classes for those who can not afford private centres.I believe that everyone should fulfill their full human potential despite of their inabilities.
