Millennium Fellowship Project: Speak Out
Where I live,in Africa,I realized most people are afraid to speak about the issues they face, especially regarding mental health. With my background in computer science,I am creating an online platform whereby people will be able to share their stories anonymously and receive support from those facing the same. I will also integrate a feature whereby organizations and hospitals offering mental health services have their professional help providers have their contacts listed so that people are able to access professional help. The online platform will also offer education regarding the various mental issues to equip people with the understanding of how various mental issues manifest and how to cope with them.
About the Millennium Fellow
Silvia Gathei is a young and determined computer science student from the University of Nairobi in Kenya.She was born and currently resides in Nairobi, Kenya. Since she was a young girl, Silvia has always been passionate about advocating for mental health. She has always openly advocated for the topic of mental health to be openly talked about and the importance of having less stigma surrounding it.It has always been her vision and dream to be able to change how the world sees the topic of mental health and make a difference in people's lives.
