Millennium Fellowship Project: Be Aware Be Safe

We wanted to spread awareness on HIV in the obstetrics department. How we can make people aware of their status, accept it and teach them how to prevent passing it down to their children. This means that we should not neglect the ones affected, but we should teach them ways to cope so that they can live a normal life. Mothers are not fully aware of their condition which means that their kids are raised not knowing too, leading to severe medical, emotional and social challenges all at once. Stigma keeps people that are HIV positive from talking openly about their condition and kept vulnerable people from having the courage to step into a clinic and ask for help on how to move forward from there with a baby on the way. Due to this we decided to spread awareness and explain it to them so they don't have to feel clueless and alone. As people have lived longer; they tend to forget and the topic gets drifted from the headlines. We walked into clinics locally and had a talk with the women, shared brochures and explained how they can take care of both them and their babies.
