Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering the Rural Woman
My project is directed toward girls and young women in the rural areas of Kenya, who mainstream women empowerment organizations often leave out. It encompasses three parts; to curb cases of female genital mutilation in the rural areas of Kenya by educating the community and empowering women, creating a pipeline for women who have dropped out due to early pregnancies and early marriages to resume their studies, to impart technical skills for young women who might be unable or unwilling to resume their schooling so that they can fend for themselves and their families.
About the Millennium Fellow
Uniter Riziki is a 4th-year medical student at the University of Nairobi. She is and has always been passionate about gender equality and availing equal opportunities to all genders. She has been a part of several associations that aim to improve the attainment of quality education and healthcare for all women as she believes that the improvement of a single woman equals the betterment of a community. Apart from this, she is also a mental health advocate and a tech enthusiast.
