" Being a surviver of sexual violence takes more than can ever be understood to not only move forward but also to thrive even in the wake of the damage. I am passionate about this because I believe not only can the survivors be encouraged to pick back up their life but they can be inspired to be better and to help others to prevent more people from being victims. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Speaking Out on Sexual Assault and Violence
The project is intended to create a solid understanding on sexual assault and it's aftermath on the victims. I hope to create not only awareness but also a safe haven for the victims, a place they can get the help they need, with understanding, compassion and empathy.
About the Millennium Fellow
Valerie Mwende is a student of The University of Nairobi Chiromo campus, taking microbiology and biotechnology. She is driven, passionate and dedicated to making a change and leaving her mark in the world. Despite how cliche it may sound, she hoped to use this platform to create a greater impact and understanding of and towards sexual violence victims because it's effects reach far and beyond directly on the victim and in ripple effects of those around. She is ready to learn and grow all around and be the kind of leader the world needs
