University of the Philippines Diliman | Quezon City, Philippines | Advancing SDG 1 & UNAI 9

" I have always believed in the importance, first, of being a leader who is also a team player, and second, of constantly and actively seeking for new knowledge. And I associate these principles with my favorite quote: “The strength of the wolf is the pack, and the strength of the pack is the wolf.” I think that for a group to efficiently perform and effectively execute a task, it is crucial to have good communication and coordination between the leader and his members. More important than having the brightest members is good team dynamics which must be established through the leader’s initiative. A good leader embodying the change in his own ways will gain followers who will believe in the same idea and hand-in-hand help each other to achieve such goal. The skills I will gain in Millennium Fellowship program will help me become a better person who can spearhead the change that our chosen community needs. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Isang Manwal sa Pagtatanim ng Palay
Philippines is an agricultural nation where almost 40 percent of the workforce in the country engages in agriculture. Rice farming is one of the backbones of agriculture in this country. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, Palay output in 2020 was posted at 19.32 million metric tons.
Yet, there are numerous problems concerning rice farming in the Philippines primarily involving the unsteady percentage of yield of the different varieties of rice produced per region.
This can be caused by inconsistent practices being applied by the farmers. This is supported by the recent study of the Department of Agriculture where among the said problems is the lack of information dissemination.
Through the Millennium Fellowship, we want to address this issue as it connects to three of the seventeen sustainable development goals set by United Nations, namely SDGs 1, 4, and 10.”
A material from IRRI which talks about how to increase yield in rice was translated to three Filipino languages, so that its knowledge will be more accessible.
