" It would likely be helpful for me to develop myself and as well as apply the learnings that I am about to learn in the said Fellowship. Along with this, I want to be able to share my ideas or knowledge when it comes to dealing with different problems and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, actively participating in various programs of my organization urged me to pursue this Fellowship for it showcases the capacity of the youth to provide a better and sustainable world to live in. With the learnings that I am about to learn in the said Fellowship, I will apply it to my daily life and to further create programs in my organization for the betterment of society. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Isang Manwal sa Pagtatanim ng Palay
Philippines is an agricultural nation where almost 40 percent of the workforce in the country engages in agriculture. Rice farming is one of the backbones of agriculture in this country. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, Palay output in 2020 was posted at 19.32 million metric tons.
Yet, there are numerous problems concerning rice farming in the Philippines primarily involving the unsteady percentage of yield of the different varieties of rice produced per region.
This can be caused by inconsistent practices being applied by the farmers. This is supported by the recent study of the Department of Agriculture where among the said problems is the lack of information dissemination.
Through the Millennium Fellowship, we want to address this issue as it connects to three of the seventeen sustainable development goals set by United Nations, namely SDGs 1, 4, and 10.”
A material from IRRI which talks about how to increase yield in rice was translated to three Filipino languages, so that its knowledge will be more accessible.
