Millennium Fellowship Project: Developing Resources to Aid in the Transition from High School to College

Every year, a considerable number of students enter college unprepared. Underrepresented students (racial/ethnic minorities, first-generation, and low-income students) are often extra unprepared. Being unprepared when entering college can severely impact the success of students. Also, many of the resources offered by schools only focus on academic factors. However, we know that academic success is not the only factor in overall college success. Non-academic factors, like social belonging, are also important. My project focuses on identifying the gaps in my University's resources for incoming first-year students. It develops and offers additional resources for them, particularly social and structural resources, to aid in their transition from high school to college.
