" Impact and sustainability are elements that guide my commitment to advancing social justice. I am honoured to be a Millennium Fellow because I am positioned to make a positive contribution to society. I will be able to develop new skills, interact, and create with other deserving peers. I understand what it means to be able to define your future and assert your worth. I want my voice and cause to create change, stand up for what is right, and to inspire future generations of women. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: SAWACH SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ADVOCACY PROJECT

This project merges digital and physical resources to provide a platform for women who are in disadvantageous social positions. The objective is to create a guide for realizing their full potential by advancing their skills and other essentials that are prerequisites to a fulfilling and healthy living environment. This environment is a crucial foundation for equipping and capacitating women as a means to achieve social equity and consequently erode the hierarchies of gender inequality.

About the Millennium Fellow

Ofentse Makgato is a law and international relations student at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her professional goal is transformative research. Ofentse’s impressive achievements range from being a provincial debater in high school to being selected for the Golden Key Wits Chapter's top 15% in her first year of university. Being raised in an empowering environment by a single mom inspired her to advocate for social justice, particularly in the development of young women. Her analytical and research skills, as well as the young leadership roles she has held, are key characteristics that distinguish her as a future leader.
