Millennium Fellowship Project: Biokey Biogas Digestion
Biokey Biogas is a project aiming to convert biodegradable fraction of solid waste into useful resources biomethane and organic fertilizer. Through organic waste anaerobic digestion, macromolecules are broken down by bacteria into small valuable molecules like methane and ammonia which becomes ammonium a good fertilizer. Overally Biokey Biogas addresses the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 7 primarily.
About the Millennium Fellow
Kerly Makura is a young biomedical sciences student at the University of Zimbabwe aged 20. He is a hardworking ambitious gentleman born in a small agricultural town called Marondera, Zimbabwe. Being a citizen of such a town surrounded by peasants, Kerly has experienced rural life and its difficulties and has grown the passion to resolve some of the problems faced by rural citizens. Particularly problems in the use of firewood for fuel as well as its negative impact on the environment. In alignment with the United Nation's sustainable development goal 7 Kerly researched into biogas production as a solution which also encompasses goals 6, 9, 11, 12 and 13. Kerly wishes to contribute more towards United Nation's sustainable development goals in the future.
