Millennium Fellowship Project: My Mental Health Campaign
My Mental Health Campaign is a multifaceted initiative that combines online and in-person efforts, developed with the aim of addressing the critical issue of mental health among youths in the Irrua community of Edo State, Nigeria. Our primary mission is to create awareness about mental health and provide practical guidance to young individuals between the ages of 10 and above.
In a community where the importance of mental health is often overlooked, we believe that knowledge is the first step toward preventing and mitigating mental health disorders. As the saying goes, 'a stitch in time saves nine,' and early education about mental health can significantly contribute to better overall well-being.
Throughout the duration of the fellowship, My Mental Health Campaign will host a series of impactful activities. These include
1)online webinars featuring professional mental health practitioners as speakers
2)Engagement with two local schools in Irrua
3) Dissemination of online awareness materials such as infographics and short video clips.
Additionally, we will provide educational resources such as bulletins and booklets to help students and teachers better understand the purpose and significance of our project.
Our mission doesn't stop at awareness; we are committed to equipping community members with the tools to identify and assist youths who may be developing mental health problems or experiencing crises. Collaboration with mental health practitioners at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital is pivotal in connecting affected individuals to the care they need.
Our goal is to reach and positively impact between 500 to 1,000 people through these combined online and in-person efforts, thereby reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use problems while fostering a more informed, supportive, and engaged community.
