Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Dolan Champa
Dolan Champa is an independent project led by Millennium Fellows Urmi Akter and Mahmuda Khatun. Dolan Champa addresses issues of social inequality and lack of access to health and sanitation of urban poor people. The aim of the project is to work with the local informal settlement people in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The project area is a slum near the railway station in Chittagong city. During the Millennium Fellowship Program (August-November, 2023), Project Dolan Champa will work on creating social awareness of the issue and collaborate with a WASH project to hold 3 consecutive sessions with 180 people across the events.
About the Millennium Fellow
Urmi Akter is an Undergraduate student at Asian University for Women, Bangladesh. She is doing a double major in Environmental Sciences and Public Health. Urmi is passionate about the health and wellness of elderly people in third-world countries and works to help them improve their physical and mental health. She has been living both in rural and urban areas of Bangladesh and has seen health disparities among the population regarding their age, financial background, and gender. Through her project, Urmi wants to ensure a sustainable and positive health impact among the elderly people of her country. Urmi aims to earn a master's degree in Public Health and work in geriatrics health.
