Millennium Fellowship Project: Hypertension Awareness: Curbing the Menace
Hypertension is commonly known as High Blood Pressure; it is described as increased
pressure within the blood Vessels above 140/90mmHG.
It is a Silent Killer and it is currently one of the leading causes of Death in the World.
It does not have a definitive symptom that will indicate the progression of this disease.
High blood pressures can cause severe headaches, blurred vision, chest pain,
confusion and anxiety.
The only way to detect hypertension is to have a health professional measure blood
pressure with a sphygmomanometer( blood pressure monitor).
Preventive Lifestyle such as reducing and managing stress, regularly checking blood
pressure, Smoking Cessation, Moderate Alcohol Consumption, reducing intake of salty
and trans fat containing foods, exercise and weight loss if obese will help in preventing
Hypertension.
The Goal of the Project was to educate students and people in my Community about the dangers of hypertension and how to adjust their lifestyle to try prevent Hypertension.
Also, to educate people on the importance of frequently checking their blood pressures.
To debunk the myths and false ideologies about
Hypertension.
