Millennium Fellowship Project: Integrating the needs of students with disabilities in planning and coordinating Higher Education.

The project titled integrating the needs of students with disabilities in planing and coordination of Higher Education is aimed at creating awareness to stakeholders of the university that they are students with special needs who desire to acquire a degree but due to lack of facilities in the university, they are not able to effectively study. For example, the university of Bamenda has no sign language intepreters. This makes lectures almost impossible for hearing impaired students. Also, only 2 lecture halls have Ramps, so students with physical disabilities will have difficulty in accessing the other halls thus making effective studies difficult.
The project is to research on the ways the university can better accommodate students with disabilities and create the awareness to stakeholders of Higher Education in Cameroon so that in planning higher education policies, they should design policies to accommodate all students.

About the Millennium Fellow

I am Forbeteh Noela a 25 year old Cameroon resident in the North west Region of Cameroon. I am a Student of the University of Bamenda, Faculty of Economics and management science. I am the founder and Coordinator of OUR Voice Cameroon. This is a non-profit making association of volunteers who are working towards SDG#10: Reduced inequalities. Together with the world, in our local way, we want to reduce inequalities existing between persons leaving with disabilities and those those without. This is done through reducing communication barrier for hard of hearing persons by teaching the sign language and volunteering as sign language interpreters.
