Millennium Fellowship Project: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a global public health issue, where bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites become resistant to medicines, making it difficult to treat infections and diseases. There are many causes of AMR such as misuse and overuse of antimicrobials are the major factors that lead to the emergence of drug-resistant pathogens. Also, a lack of clean water, poor sanitation and hygiene, and insufficient infection prevention and control aid in microbes escalation, some of which develop resistance to antimicrobials. Furthermore, poor access to cheap and quality medicines, vaccines and diagnoses, lack of knowledge and awareness, and lack of enforcement legislation are no exceptions to the root causes of AMR.

About the Millennium Fellow

Abubakar Yusuf Ado is an undergraduate student at Bayero University, Kano pursuing a major in pharmacy. He is passionate about promoting SDGs (3) and (4). His passion for the SDGs was ignited because he was born and raised in a community where accessing quality education and better healthcare seemed to be a stumbling block. And his commitment to giving back to society is fueled by his unwavering enthusiasm to make a difference in a less privileged community.
