Millennium Fellowship Project: BEAR Buddyz

Bridging Educational Access and Resources! This is a project that seeks to address a critical issue in our community – providing support and guidance to economically disadvantaged students as they navigate the challenging path towards college. This project is not only seeking to guide disadvantaged students but any students regardless of background that need guidance and mentorship during the college application process and their future aspirations. Many of these students are the first in their families to pursue higher education, and the journey can be intimidating and overwhelming.

BEAR Buddyz aims to increase college enrollment and retention rates for underrepresented students right here in our high school. The heart of this project lies in connecting our students with mentors from UC Berkeley. These mentors will provide personalized guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support throughout high school, helping our students conquer the hurdles they might face on the way to higher education.

But BEAR Buddyz isn't just about academics; it's also about fostering a sense of community and social support. Each student will be matched with a peer mentor who has faced similar challenges and can provide empathetic advice and guidance. This holistic approach ensures that our students receive the full spectrum of support they need to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential.

Our mission with BEAR Buddyz is to tackle the root causes of educational and socioeconomic inequality by empowering our students with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed. Together, we can inspire academic excellence and create a brighter future for all members of the Berkeley/Oakland community.
