Millennium Fellowship Project: Read with You

The target group of our project is the "migratory bird" children, who, due to the process of urban-rural integration and other objective reasons, have to stay in a less stable conditions, away from their hometown and in a county lacking education resources. Their parents probably have no time to accompany them due to their livelihood. For these kids, learning English is also often limited to compulsory education in school, and due to the extreme imbalance of educational resources and the lack of relevant educational awareness, they do not have more opportunities to understand English and the world.
After learning about this social phenomenon and problem, we launched this project, combining our strengths in English learning resources, hoping to help more children to see the world while looking back to their hometowns by reading English picture books with them.
Until now, we’ve spent more than 350 hours reading online or offline with the kids, recruited 24 volunteers to work with us, and helped about 80 kids in total.
In addition, we have formed an official account on WeChat to make the English Corner about different topics, and each article will introduce some simple English knowledge so that more children can experience the charm of English as a language and learn some interesting trivia from around the world. So far our English Corner has been tweeted 21 times, with a total of more than 3000 views, and our project's public number currently has 188 subscribers, which exceeds the number of people involved in our project itself.
