Millennium Fellowship Project: Project UMEED

Project UMEED, under the BMCRI community medicine club, UMEED was started in order to bring awareness about cervical cancer and methods to prevent it in school going age group with their parents. Under this project, we aim to reach out to about 750 to 1000 beneficiaries including students, their parents, and the school staff through awareness sessions. Our main objective is to educate people about cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine, which the Government of India recently launched under the national immunization schedule. We also aim to cover specific related topics like menstrual hygiene, the importance of nutrition, healthy lifestyles, sexual education, etc. As part of this project, we will be educating women about various menstrual products available and give them a choice to choose the best product for themselves. We also look forward to distributing a few sanitary napkins to people who might not be able to afford them. To have a complete approach we cover mental health as well! Importance of mental health and how they should recognise when to get help and when to approach a specialist.
