Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Ashray

According to the National Institute of Disaster Management, the North-Eastern part of India is statistically more prone to natural disasters like earthquakes, landslides, cloud bursts, etc. Large scale disasters like these often uproot livelihoods and displace people due to unliveable conditions. With thousands of people being affected by these each year, it brings about the need for prompt action that aids in safeguarding human life.

As shapers of the future, the Fellows, as a part of the project see the importance of designing emergency shelters as easily scalable modules that could be implemented in disaster-prone areas around the globe. Although planned on the slopes of eastern India, the project aims to create a global impact in the way emergency shelters are designed.
