Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Ashray

According to the National Institute of Disaster Management, the North-Eastern part of India is statistically more prone to natural disasters like earthquakes, landslides, cloud bursts, etc. Large scale disasters like these often uproot livelihoods and displace people due to unliveable conditions. With thousands of people being affected by these each year, it brings about the need for prompt action that aids in safeguarding human life.

As shapers of the future, the Fellows, as a part of the project see the importance of designing emergency shelters as easily scalable modules that could be implemented in disaster-prone areas around the globe. Although planned on the slopes of eastern India, the project aims to create a global impact in the way emergency shelters are designed.

About the Millennium Fellow

Sharayu Gadekar is a bright, smart and passionate young woman studying Bachelor's Degree in Architecture at Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture, Pune, India. ShaGa exudes strong intrapersonal skills and strives for perfection. She believes in the cause that she works towards and has her each and every move planned meticulously. she has been firm on her opinions, let it be her standing up to her peers or family for getting equal rights. Sharayu believes in becoming a leader which focuses on the quality on living while being coexistent with the environment and reaching a global community to solve issues related to the humankind. ShaGa plans to earn a master's degree in architecture emphasising on solving multiple social causes, and aims for her contribution in United Nations, SDG’S by establishing a bridge between people.
