Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering Youths through Vocational Training for Sustainable Development in the Buea Municipality, Cameroon

The need for practical vocational skills among youths in the Buea Municipality and Cameroon is evident. The formal education system in Cameroon has traditionally focused on theoretical knowledge, leaving a gap in the development of practical skills necessary for employment and sustainable development. According to a report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in 2020, the youth unemployment rate in Cameroon was 8.8%, indicating the challenges faced by young people in accessing decent employment opportunities. Vocational training has been recognized as a key strategy to address this issue by equipping youths with relevant skills that match the demands of the local job market. Furthermore, various organizations and institutions have highlighted the importance of vocational training in Cameroon. The Cameroon Skills Development Program (CSDP), implemented by the government with support from the World Bank, aims to enhance the quality and relevance of vocational training in the country. The program acknowledges the need to bridge the skills gap and promote economic growth through vocational training.
As a student at the University of Buea that has a mission to empower youths and promote sustainable development. By providing vocational training, the foundation aligns with the national and global efforts to enhance youth employability and contribute to the socio economic development of the Buea Municipality.
