Millennium Fellowship Project: The Uplift Fellowship

The Uplift Fellowship works to help underserved First-Generation and/or Low-Income students nationwide apply and get accepted into highly selective colleges and universities. We want students to be academically and professionally prepared for their aspiring careers. High school sophomores will collaborate with the Uplift Fellowship during their Spring semester to participate in summer opportunity programs that can enhance their interests and bolster their profile for college applications. Through this time, sophomores will receive mentorship opportunities, scholarship assistance, and mental health resources as they tackle their rigorous high school journey. During their senior year, we want students to be knowledgeable and prepared to apply to colleges and universities while helping them receive substantial college financial aid and scholarships to attend their desired schools.

About the Millennium Fellow

Ileane Barrera is a sophomore studying Political Science and Human Rights at Columbia University in New York City, USA. After moving from Queens to Long Island, Ileane grew up acutely aware of the education disparities within New York's school systems. She firmly believes that education is not a privilege but rather a fundamental human right, one that should be equally accessible to all. Her project, centered around educational equity, aims to provide first-generation and/or low-income students with the essential support of mentorship, resources, and opportunities to help kindle their ambitions.
