Millennium Fellowship Project: The Street Bridge Foundation
The Street Bridge Foundation is a youth-led non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of marginalized street children. Elie Ntakirutimana, a millennium fellow, Happy Herman Niyorurema and other dedicated group of more than 100 individuals have a mission to mitigate the inherent perils and challenges faced by vulnerable street kids in Kigali, by providing them with comprehensive support, including school re-enrollment with ample scholarship provisions and ongoing assistance. Additionally, we strive to empower the families of these children by imparting them with essential life skills, such as soap making, to enhance their self-sufficiency. The project addresses SDG 1, “No Poverty,” and SDG 4, “Quality Education”.
At the core of our endeavors lies the driving objective of equipping our beneficiaries, both children and parents alike, with the tools and knowledge necessary for long-term sustainability, even in our absence. We firmly believe in fostering their self-reliance and fostering a sense of active engagement in effecting positive social change within their communities.
About the Millennium Fellow
Elie Ntakirutimana is a freshman Plant Sciences student at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, United States. Having been Africa native, he is very compassionate about the transformation and betterment of underestimated and privileged people, lend them dominant voices for such speechless individuals, and stand for them a ladder to lean on while thriving to find their very own triumphant pinnacle. Through his project, Street Bridge Foundation, he hopes to rescue the street kids from the perils of the streets of Rwanda and Africa in general, bring them back to school, and sustainably empower their families.
