Millennium Fellowship Project: Health Education to Poor Households and Slum dwellers
So I was planning to increase the accessibility of heath education to poor people who live in remote villages.
They have no money to go to a doctor and even when they have, they do not know how to and when to see a doctor . They get to see a doctor when the disease has significantly progressed.
I am a student nurse and my project is teaching people in my home county, including my former highschool, what to do when they get sick, what symptoms and signs are the clinical presentation of diseases, and where to seek help. On top of all, how to lead healthy lifestyles despite their economically unfavourable states
About the Millennium Fellow
Meet Branfon Karani, a first member in her s family to go to University and an inspiring millennium fellow on a transformative journey. Hailing from Meru, Kenya, Branfon's path has been one of resilience and determination. As a nursing student at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, he not only envisions a future in healthcare but also carries a mission rooted in his personal experiences.
Raised in the face of poverty, Branfon's formative years were characterized by limited access to medical services. This scarcity ignited a profound belief within him – that a lack of health awareness in his community lay at the core of this disparity. Fueled by this realization, Branfon is dedicating his efforts to providing vital health education, dispelling myths, and dismantling stereotypes within his community.
Beyond his remarkable commitment to healthcare advocacy, Branfon's talents span diverse realms. He's a distinguished participant in his country's music festivals, having showcased his skills up to the national level during the 2019 music festival event. Branfon's ability to bridge languages and cultures shines brightly as he fluently communicates in four languages: English, French, Swahili, and Kimeru.
As he charts his path forward, Branfon's aspirations remain as ambitious as they are admirable. Following his nursing undergrad, he envisions himself acquiring a degree in French language, while setting his sights on an advanced journey in academia. Branfon's pursuit includes attaining a Masters and eventually a PhD in midwifery from an esteemed international university.
Branfon Karani's story is a testament to the power of perseverance, education, and the determination to make a tangible difference in the world.
