Millennium Fellowship Project: Building Trauma-Informed Healthcare Systems
I want to share the project i’ve been working on that aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-Being. It focuses on integrating trauma screening into routine hospital services. This is not just about acknowledging the physical ailments but recognizing the often-overlooked emotional and psychological aspects of our patients' well-being.
I was assessing the feasibility and effectiveness of integrating trauma screening into hospitals, trying to identify the barriers and enablers to implementation within the hospital setting, and generating evidence that highlights the potential impact of trauma screening on patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency.
My ultimate goal is action-oriented. I want to promote trauma screening as a standard procedure in hospitals, when appropriate, and raises awareness not only among healthcare professionals but also within the broader community. I really hope to see an improvement in patient outcomes and a more efficient use of healthcare resources.
About the Millennium Fellow
Saisha Dhar is a third-year at Duke University, studying Neuroscience and Global Health. Her academic interests focus on bridging the mind-body connection in health and patient and caregiver-centered care. She hopes to make a tangible impact through research and community engagement, which she’s pursued through trauma-informed innovation with a non-profit and social needs services for ED patients. Saisha’s heart beats for creating vibrant and close communities, where people come together to share their stories and experiences.
