Millennium Fellowship Project: Helping FIU

My project, titled "Helping FIU and Giving Hope," focuses on fulfilling United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. The Florida International University (FIU) Student Food Pantry does not have enough donations or support to properly put an end to food insecurity on campus. Since theThe food pantry is donation-based; there is no certainty regarding whether there will beenough non-perishable food items to distribute to an increasing number of students.visitors each month. Further, the FIU Student Food Pantry is based in a tight, uncomfortably small office space on campus; even if there were sufficient donations,There would be no place to store them. Helping Others and Giving Hope (HOAGH) is an international humanitarian relief organization founded in 2019 and based in Miami.Florida, whose goal is to bring help and hope to those who are impoverished, hungry, and hurting. Since August of 2019, I have volunteered for and assisted in runningHOAGH. As previously mentioned, my project revolves around connecting the FIU.Student Food Pantry with HOAGH With HOAGH, I plan to meet with the leaders of thepantry, the FIU student government, and the administration in order to establish amore secure and permanent supply chain of non-perishable foods and toiletries, which include but are not limited to canned proteins, fruits, dairy, vegetables, and soups, along with grains, oils, and condiments. We will do so by proposing that HOAGH become the main contributor to the pantry’s stock, establishing periodical campuswide HOAGH food drives, fundraisers, and distributions for the pantry, effectively promoting the pantry, making it more accessible to those in need than ever before, and successfully advocating for a larger, more appropriate location for a campus food pantry.
