Millennium Fellowship Project: Tree Planting

The intended plant to be used is botanically called Terminalia Species e.g Almond Plant.
The project is in 3 phases.

Pre - Planting Operation - This involves
1. Making research on an environmentally friendly plant that will;
a. serve as relaxation centers in the school environment
b. provide shade for cars, thereby reducing the number of carbon that will encapsulated in it.
c. have less root to avoid direct effect on nearby building and roads
d. produce consumable fruit and food for people's consumption, therefore serving sdg 2 and 3 which says “Zero Hunger” and “Good Health and Well Being” respectively.

2. Selection of fertile soil type for fast plant growth: We found out that the best soil for fast and healthy growth of the plant intended is a rich loamy soil which we have been trying our best to find all possible ways to get it.

3. Raising of fund to buy the soil type needed
4. Buying of nursery plant poly bags: This will be used to temporarily nurture the plant from the weedling stage till it matures to be relocated to the intended spot after a few weeks.
5. Securing a space to nurture the tree: This is a portion of land (open enough to expose the plants to direct sunlight) where the poly pots carrying the plants will be placed for nurturing.
6. Scouting and Buying of seedlings and/or weedlings: This is the process of searching for the seed of the intended plant to be planted. After consulting a tree planting expert, we were shown places where we can buy the seedling and where we can get some weedlings for free.
7. Training for volunteers on the Pre - planting, Planting and Post - planting operation.

Planting Operation: This involves the process of planting ranging from
1. Filling of poly pot with loamy soil
2. Transplanting of weedlings
3. Daily Monitoring and wetting of plants till maturity.

Post Planting Operation
1. Transplant of matured plant to the final and needed spot.
2. Monitoring and watering of transplanted plant till it survive.
3. Project success.
