Millennium Fellowship Project: Animus

The average university student undergoes various periods of stress, anxiety, depression, bad habits, and sleeplessness- It’s almost natural to experience throughout a student’s educational career. However, if left unchecked or mismanaged, they can develop into serious mental health disorders which can easily start to negatively affect the body. This could be made worse with Hong Kong’s social stigma of mental illness- potentially dissuading students from seeking proper help or resources. Our proposal ‘ANIMUS’‘ intends to bring more awareness to university students about their mental health, why it is important, how it might be negatively affected, the possible causes, and how to take care of themselves when they feel like they’re going through a difficult time. We aim to mainly communicate to University students about mental health awareness through infographic social media posts, conducting surveys, and social media awareness campaigns. We want to address the stigma of mental health illness in Hong Kong, bring more attention to mental health, better educate students on how they might form, and how to deal with it. We aim to source our posts with proven research and data, connect students to better mental health information and services, validate their struggles, and hopefully give them some tips and advice on how to better manage their mental health.
