Millennium Fellowship Project: The Sunbird Legacy

We are a Bangaluru-based startup founded by Dr. Saji Varghese,
which helps organisations fulfill its avowed mission of meeting the
sustainability goals towards a greener and cleaner planet by reducing the
carbon footprint, ensuring poverty alleviation by empowering rural women
and contributing towards clean air and water by reducing the use of plastic
and paper alternatives. Our products are the first of their kind, made from
fallen coconut leaves that would otherwise be burned, adding to the already
high levels of carbon emissions. Our story of passion and innovation earned us
the position of finalist in the MassChallenge, Switzerland.
My work is essential as a Social Educator in the extension wing of the start-up. The
role and responsibility of this wing is to impart education to the children of the
rural women employed by the organisation. The medium of education is
online and a varied array of subjects are taught by the volunteers. I’m responsible for ideating and executing lesson plans for the children, and delegating tasks amongst the university volunteers.
