Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Taawun

Project Taawun is a disaster preparedness community outreach program. At Taawun, we aspire to contribute our bit towards the crippling effects of climate change through community outreach, regular awareness campaigns, impact assessment, and disaster risk reduction. Its primary focus is on UN sustainable development objectives, such as sustainable cities and communities (SDG-11) and climate action (SDG-13).

Climate change has been a major issue for us, especially today when it touches extremes uncontrollably and unexpectedly. Due to greater human intervention, the situation has deteriorated significantly in recent decades. Temperatures are constantly rising, and the effects can be seen all around us. One such issue is the urban heat island, which can be seen in the nation's capital Delhi. Our main aim through this project is to let people know about the realities of climate change and to shift their attitudes toward climate action. We intend to assist individuals with safeguards and measures during natural disasters and promote awareness of the actions to be done before natural disasters in disaster-prone areas. We attempt to educate people through internet platforms, podcasts, and a few on-the-ground initiatives. Also, to emphasize important natural disaster events and to make people aware of the situations in their surroundings, causes, actions, and government activities for those in distress, and to foster community values, empathy, and collaboration among people to help one another.
