Millennium Fellowship Project: KU MINDS UNITE

In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 3, focusing on good health and well-being, our collective effort at Kenyatta University seeks to diminish the social stigma surrounding mental health. This comprehensive social impact article explores the initiatives undertaken by Millennium Fellows to cultivate a community that not only understands but actively promotes mental well-being. Training students to become mental health advocates is another endeavor. With their broad knowledge of mental health, these ambassadors are able to actively raise awareness of mental health issues among their peers. Our principal aim is to ameliorate the social stigma associated with mental health at Kenyatta University. At Kenyatta University, mental health stigma is a significant barrier to seeking support and addressing mental health challenges. Many students feel ashamed or embarrassed to talk about their mental health, fearing judgment or discrimination. This stigma prevents individuals from accessing the necessary resources and support systems that could greatly benefit their mental well-being. Motivated by both personal experiences and observed struggles within the university community, our initiatives strive to enhance mental wellness.
