Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology | Kumasi, Ghana | Advancing SDG 2 & UNAI 4

" Being at the centre of decision making especially with regards to solving problems is the main reason fueling my decision for undertaking this life changing journey to be a millennium fellow. Growing up in a society where we've been inculcated with some cultural pre conditioning about certain common life goals which is born out of ignorance, I have learned to be a change maker and not script reader. For this reason, I feel the need to bring to light sensitisation and awareness to issue pertaining our health, daily health practices and sanitation. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Clean hands, Sanitize Health
Clean Hands, Sanitize Health.
I am Yahaya Ibrahim, a dedicated second-year Statistics student at KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana, and a proud member of the Millennium Fellows Class of 2023. In collaboration with a millennium fellow from my hometown, Munkaila Fatima, we embark on a meaningful journey to drive social change.
Our focus is primarily on Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which emphasizes the importance of clean water and sanitation. We are narrowing our attention to instilling awareness and promoting the significance of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices. Our mission is to educate, demonstrate, and encourage students to instill in them the best hand-washing practices.
Our journey begins at Zanguum Primary School, where we aim to inspire students to embrace correct WASH practices, specifically, hand-washing practices. We will also engage students of Nasiriya Primary School in Tampelingu, Walewale. We will engage, educate, and demonstrate the proper way of washing hands to students. To further incentivize their participation, we will recognize and award the most dedicated students who successfully install hand-washing stations at their homes, complete with soap and detergents.
Through "Clean Hands, Sanitize Health," we aim to initiate a positive attitudinal shift among the young minds of Zangum and Tampelingu. We firmly believe that by instilling these essential practices early on, we can not only improve their lives but also set a precedent for a healthier, more hygienic community.
Although we don't reside in Zangum and Tampelingu we have taken the time to understand their needs and aspirations. Our project is a testament to our commitment to making a meaningful impact, one clean hand at a time. Together, we strive to empower Zanguum, and Tampelingu for a healthier, hygienic, and brighter future.
