Millennium Fellowship Project: Operation Shining Star

Operation Shining Star is focused on connecting with and elevating youths in underserved communities. In collabaortion with another MCN fellow and a local organization from within our community , we aspire to create a workshop centered on mental health, academics and career prep, financial literacy and leadership. Professionals, preferably who have overcome adversity or grew up in underserved communities would be the speakers at the workshop. My focus for this workshop will be on academics and career prep as well as financial literacy. Adolescents are not often aware of the scholarship opportunities or grants available to them. In addition to this, speakers from various professions can share their experience on how they were able to achieve their career. This would not only motivate young adolescents about going into career paths they thought might not be able to but they also have the opportunity to ask more questions to see if a specific career is the right for them. To track the success of this workshop, we would create a survey to see how useful the target population thought the information was.

About the Millennium Fellow

Roshauna Bennett is a Lynn University senior majoring in International Business Management with a minor in International Relations. She is originally from Kingston, Jamaica, and has grown up in a large family with six brothers, with her being the only girl. Over time, she realized the importance of education for young girls as an avenue for success and upward social mobility. She has her sights set on becoming an international attorney working across the US and the Caribbean in hopes of making a positive change in the legal field while inspiring other young girls to follow their dreams.
