Millennium Fellowship Project: STEM IT UP Girls project

STEM IT UP Girls is an initiative dedicated to bridging the gender gap in STEM by empowering all girls including those with disabilities in high school in Ngora district in Uganda through equipping them with a diverse set of technology and innovation skills through training workshops and the establishment of STEM IT UP Girls' clubs in schools to facilitate continuous learning, skill-sharing and community engagement for sustained impact. The training workshops encompass computer literacy, web development, video editing and innovation skills. The initiative’s vision includes seeing girls from rural areas as trailblazers and innovators in STEM fields.

About the Millennium Fellow

Mercy Musingo is a Civil engineering student at Makerere University, Uganda. She is an advocate for girls and women in STEM education and has mobilized female science undergraduates from universities to empower girls in high school to excel in the STEM field. With a strong commitment to Sustainable Development Goals, she has been involved in various community service projects. She is also the co-founder of "United for Girls and Women Empowerment" (UGWE), focusing on quality education, gender equality and women empowerment where she has equipped girls in rural communities with essential life skills, leadership abilities and income-generating skills, fostering self-sustainability.
