Millennium Fellowship Project: Sukanya

The project is dedicated to tackling the cultural and societal limitations that hinder the ambitions and capabilities of women in rural India. It is in line with the UN's fifth goal of achieving gender equality, which focuses on empowering women and eliminating discrimination. The project aims to investigate barriers to women's progress, specifically addressing issues such as financial illiteracy and limited access to information. Embarking on a noble mission, my project seeks to empower and enlighten the women of my village, fostering financial independence. Beyond economic empowerment, it aspires to cultivate a supportive community. A space where women openly discuss daily challenges, uniting against injustices like domestic violence. Crucially, the initiative imparts legal awareness, enabling women to stand up for themselves. Not confined to gender lines, it extends education on mutual respect to both genders. Through enlightening sessions, women share their journeys to financial independence, addressing topics from menstrual health to the perils of underage marriage. The project aims to bridge artisans with NGOs, creating avenues for sustainable livelihoods.
