Millennium Fellowship Project: Alleviation of Poverty through the Empowerment of women

This project aims to alleviate poverty in the Ger Districts of Ulaanbaatar by empowering single, primary-earner mothers. The project will include a literature review on the relevant topics including but not limited to the effect of slums on medium-sized cities like Ulaanbaatar, the effect of empowering women in poverty-stricken areas, prior similar projects carried out in the Ger district as well as a review of case studies that effectively eradicated or reduced poverty in slums through policy or project interventions. Informed by the broad literature specific to the issue of concern, a policy guide will be formulated. The completed project is meant to serve as a direct guide to ease the burdens on the government or NGO and, as such will include detailed information on navigating the bureaucratic processes and governmental procedures that will need to be carried out to implement the project.
At this stage of the project, based on relevant literature, educational courses target the intended community on personal/household finance, entrepreneurship/small business management, and career navigation, with an optional course on Women and Feminism, which covers sex education, family planning, and feminist theory are being considered to cover a substantial part of the policy proposal (Tumurkhuyag, 2023).
